چکیده

This work reports on the nucleation of the β-phase of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) by incorporating CoFe(2)O(4) and NiFe(2)O(4) nanoparticles, leading in this way to the preparation of magnetoelectric composites. The fraction of filler nanoparticles needed to produce the same β- to α-phase ratio in crystallized PVDF is 1 order of magnitude lower in the cobalt ferrite nanoparticles. The interaction between nanoparticles and PVDF chains induce the all-trans conformation in PVDF segments, and this structure then propagates in crystal growth. The nucleation kinetics is enhanced by the presence of nanoparticles, as corroborated by the increasing number of spherulites with increasing nanoparticle content and by the variations of the Avrami's exponent. Further, the decrease of the crystalline fraction of PVDF with increasing nanoparticle content indicates that an important fraction of polymer chains are confined in interphases with the filler particle.

Isothermal Melt Crystallization Kinetic Behavior of Poly (vinylidene fluoride)

Isothermal melt crystallization kinetics of PVDF was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. Thin PVDF film has been fabricated by the solvent casting technique using dimethylformamide (DMF). Then, the samples were melted and subsequently crystallized in the range of the crystallization temperature (Tc) between 138 and 145 °C. The crystallization kinetics was derived from Avrami equa...

Formation of Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Nanofibers Part II: the elaboration of incompatibility in the electrospinning of its solutions

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) fibers with two molecular weights were prepared via electrospinning process. In this process, the concentration of spinning depended drastically on the gelation process. Also, it was experimentally smaller than obtained concentration in the solution entanglement number approach (SENA). Proof of this incompatibility was explained by the properties of PVDF a...

Extrusion of poly(vinylidene fluoride) recycled filaments: effect of the processing cycles on the degree of crystallinity and electroactive phase content

This study analyses the possibility of reprocessing used poly(vinylidene fluoride), PVDF, maintaining the main properties critical for its use in piezoelectric sensor/actuator applications. The influence of multiple reprocessing cycles of PVDF on crystallinity and ß-phase content fundamental for its electroactive behaviour, was studied. Nine reprocessing cycles were completed and it was found t...

Study of Non-Isothermal Crystallization Kinetics of Biodegradable Poly(ethylene adipate)/SiO2 Nanocomposites

Poly(ethylene adipte) and poly(ethylene adipate)/silica nanocomposite (PEAd/SiO2) containing 3 wt. % SiO2  were prepared by an in situ method. The examinations on the non-isothermal crystallization kinetic behavior have been conducted by means of differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The Avrami, Ozawa, and combined Avrami and Ozawa equations were applied to describe the crystallization kinet...

Crystallization of Poly(ε-caprolactone) in Poly(vinylidene fluoride)/Poly(ε-caprolactone) Blend

The crystallization behavior of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) in a poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/PCL blend as well as on a highly orientated PVDF substrate was studied by means of POM, DSC and TEM. The results show that the miscibility of the PVDF/PCL blend and the spherulitic morphology of PVDF varies with the blend ratio. For all the compositions, the pre-existing PVDF crystals accelerated th...
